Wear Yellow This International Women’s Day to Push For Progress

Observed annually since the early 1900’s, International Women’s Day continues to be a globally marked occasion on the calendar. Its significance is intended to inspire us to motivate and unite our friends, colleagues and community to think, act and be gender inclusive.

Nowadays, with more women in boardrooms and having some equal say in politics, it would be easy to think the battle for women’s rights had been won. However, the theme for this March 8th is #PushForProgress, with a view to recognise the issues we still need to collectively fight. For example, in certain industries there still exists a significant gender pay gap. Globally, women are still facing serious threats in terms of education, health and violence.

One way you can get involved is to wear colours with feminine significance. Originally, purple, green and white were used as these were the colours adopted by the Women’s Social and Political Union in the UK. Later, the white was dropped as it was thought to signify purity and this was noted as being controversial. It was therefore replaced with yellow, which today signifies a new dawn for feminists and a second wave of the struggle.

To show solidarity this year, we have decided to highlight a number of items from our collection featuring this bright shade.
